Goerne Cup
Started in 2019, the Goerne Cup is a destination event hosted in beautiful Aspen Colorado. Teams travel from across the state and the surrounding region. The tournament honors Michael Goerne, a driven and dedicated lacrosse player, who suddenly and tragically lost his life in February 2019 at age 37.
Goerne discovered the game of lacrosse in Minnesota and fell in love with it. Collegiately, he played for Marist College before heading west to Colorado, and joining the men's lacrosse club in Aspen. Michael spent his life determined to share his love of the sport, founding high school and youth programs.
When visiting Aspen, we play the game remembering his contributions and the words and actions he lived by: "Do what you love, and do it often."
